How to Choose the Best Food For Your Dog – A New Resource

We were recently made aware of a resource published by Reviews.com that digs deep into the data of dog food to help consumers select the most appropriate foods for their pets.

Supper time?

While we don’t have any experience with the brands in the review, and are not necessarily endorsing them, we found the review to be thorough and well-referenced using knowledgeable and authoritative sources (such as the United States Food and Drug Administration – FDA).

The review lets you get into the details of the analysis to varying degrees depending on what info you’re looking for, and contains a number of helpful, clear infographics. The article highlights dog food delivery services (we had no idea this was a thing!), outlines the pros and cons of wet/dry/raw foods, and includes a guide on reading dog food labels and understanding the ingredients.

The review covers dog foods made and available in the United States, so if you are one of our American readers, you may find this article useful if you’re looking for more info about your dog’s existing food, or about other options that are available.

On a related dog food note, and based on our personal situation, we would like to suggest that consumers also consider human allergies when considering the ingredients in the dog foods they bring into their homes.

In many cases, dog foods may contain allergens (e.g., fish products and related oils) that can trigger anaphylactic reactions in humans that come into contact with the dog foods.

So check dog food labels carefully and consider possible negative impacts on both the people and the dogs in your household.

Here’s to having long, healthy, and happy lives for both dogs and their human families!

And thanks to our friends at Reviews.com for pulling together this great resource and infographics and sharing them with us.

As an added bonus, we invite you to check out Consumer Affairs’ Best Dog Food Brands, which features different types of foods, verified customer reviews, and expert veterinary videos and commentary.

And this Honest Product Reviews’ shopping guide for dog foods has been a helpful resource for us this fall as we’ve tried to address our dog’s longer-than-normal allergy season in combination with the fact that she’s getting older and may need some dietary adjustments. We enjoyed this thorough article that includes tons of dog food info for you to consider and discuss with your veterinarian.

As always, thanks for reading. We’re glad to have you with us.
